October is our favourite time of year for two reasons.
The first is that it’s Extra Help’s birthday in October – can you believe we’re 13 years old this year?
Where has the time gone? That’s 13 years of providing valuable home-help and domestic cleaning services to clients around the country. Little did I know, when I started my business in 2010, that it would grow to become a national, home-help franchise network of 37 franchisees (at the time of writing!).
Secondly, October is when we hold our annual Conference and Awards for our franchisees. We all look forward to this very exciting time, when our franchisees from across the UK come together to attend workshops; learn how to grow their home-help businesses from industry leaders; and share ideas and build face-to-face relationships with their peers. To find out what happens at our Conference, read on!
Held at The Bristol hotel, the conference provided a record number of franchisees with the opportunity to enhance their existing knowledge. The theme of the conference was ‘Goals’ and, throughout the day, we focused on goal setting, knowing your numbers, and setting personal and business goals.
Attendees were encouraged to produce their own vision boards to outline personal and business growth and given several tasks to complete at home. These sessions were run by Claire Robinson, our managing director, and Berkeley Harris. As the managing director of award winning Sandler Training Bristol, Berkeley has worked with many businesses to overcome the obstacles to achieving growth by improving the skills of the management and sales developers which, ultimately, leads to an increase in profits.
Berkeley also ran an extremely interesting and useful session on profiling, outlining the DiSC model that describes personality types. Attendees were tasked with looking at their own characteristics, along with those of their clients, to discover their DiSC profiles in order to determine how they interact with and, most importantly, how to communicate in the most effective way.
In the afternoon, we ran two panel discussions. The first focused on business growth, with panellists Cath and Carol, from Extra Help Wirral, Julie from Extra Help Telford and Adrian, owner of Extra Help Shropshire, all of which are among our top earners.
The other panel discussion focussed on Marketing and was run by Sarah from Extra Help West Devon & Torbay, Zaynab from Extra Help East Herts, Charlie from Extra Help North & Mid Devon and Alexandra, our newest franchisee, who recently joined us as the new owner of Extra Help Milton Keynes. They outlined ways to market your business, using tools such as business networking, Google and Facebook groups. They discussed the benefits of other options, such as leaflet delivery and local advertising magazines, and attendees also learned about Customer Lifetime Value (CLV).
Lastly, Zaynab, who is relatively new to Extra Help, having only joined us a year ago, delivered a fantastic presentation about Facebook advertising, which was extremely well received.
The event concluded with an informal dinner, giving attendees plenty of time for networking, and the presentation of the Extra Help Awards, recognising and rewarding high achievers across the network.
Claire Robinson, Managing director of Extra Help, said:
“Our Annual Conference presents a unique opportunity for our franchisees to spend quality time with us and each other; gain useful advice to help grow their businesses and, most importantly exchange valuable insights, hints and tips. It was fantastic to see so many franchisees benefitting from our Conference and feeling so positive about the Extra Help brand, as well as their own businesses. Our family is stronger than ever!”
